I hate the auto recovery feature in SQL Management Studio 2005. I've never once relied on it and it is constantly locking up management studio while I work. You'd think they'd've made it more efficient or at least run in the background. I never have the same problem with MSOffice. To make it even more annoying, they didn't provide a way to turn the feature off. But I found the right registry key, so here you go: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Shell\General\AutoRecover\
Then change "AutoRecover Enabled" to 0
